BEST MODERN CAR AT THE FIRST 2.0  MEGA SHOW & SHINE CAR & BIKE SHOW. DARREN MATHEW TALKS ABOUT HIS AWARD-WINNING 2016 HOLDEN COMMODORE SSV REDLINE SEDAN. “MODERN BUT STILL A CLASSIC”

Held on a beautiful sunny Sunday (13th March 2022) at the site of the former Caribbean Gardens, Scoresby, Victoria, the inaugural 2.0 Mega Show & Shine Car & Bike Show was a great success. With thousands of visitors and over 400 classic cars and bikes on display there was much to see and for car lovers of all ages much to drool over!

One of the major award winners on the day was 58 years old Darren Mathew with his car, a 2016  Holden SSV Redline Sedan. Darren is married, has two grown up children and three grand children. His wife, Shellie, loves the car. They currently live in South Gippsland. Darren is currently employed in the civil area as an earth mover. “Prior to civil I worked on cars for many years doing custom exhaust and brake fitting” he says. “I have always been around trucks and machinery.”

Darren explains that he has always had an interest in cars including older and modern classic cars. “My first car was an EJ station wagon. My first classic car was an LH SLR Torana and I’ve also owned an HK panel van and an HJ panel van. All decked out like they used to be in their day. We would love to get an early F100 to do up.”

2.O MEGA SHOW & SHINE 2022 – BEST MODERN CAR AWARD                                           HOLDEN COMMODORE LS3 6.2 V8 2016 REDLINE SEDAN   REGO (MADVF2)

“My wife and I are very happy about winning this award and we love the attention the car is getting at the car shows we attend” says Darren. It was built in Elizabeth, South Australia but purchased from Booran Holden in Dandenong. “It’s a beautiful slipstream blue colour and we bought it brand new as our daily driver. Shellie only drove it once to work in a retail shopping centre car park and said, no way, it’s too nice to park there!”

MODIFICATIONS

“MADVF2 is special to us as it is the last of its kind” says Darren. “It’s had a lot of modifications since we’ve had it. All the work on the motor was done by Independent Motor Sports in Morwell.” For the technically minded Darren details some of the modifications. “It’s an automatic and has a 3” full Promax exhaust with 1/78 headers, a 2300 Harrop Fdfi super charger with a 75mm pulley running. It has 11.8 psi boost 20/10 Vertini rear wheels and 20/9.5 front wheels. It also has 493.7 kw at the back wheels on a hub Dyno 798.4 nm 662hp which I’m pretty happy with.”

“The car has custom made vf front seats with the rego MADVF2 embroidered in the headrests. It has Hydro dipped panels under the bonnet and Harrop coil covers. It has a Street Fighter hi performance fuel pump to keep the fuel up to super charger. It has a 224/228 cam and Brembo brakes. The paint has been ceramic coated and I have had a custom boot lining made with MADVF2 embroidered on it. The custom sill plates also have the rego on them. There is a Billet dress up kit under the bonnet. The listt goes on but you can’t put a price on happiness.”

“MADVF2 is an absolute pleasure to drive” says Darren. “The name came about as it is a series 2 and we do a lot of mad things in it like driving to Sydney to get some awesome photos.” Darren is super enthusiastic about his car and says “it is like a third child. If I could fit it in the lounge room I would. I spend hours cleaning and detailing it before shows or cruises. I just love doing it. The build so far has been great and I’m sure I’ll be doing more as our journey with the car continues.”

CAR CLUBS & SHOWS

Darren and Shellie try to attend a lot of car shows and are currently members of the VF owners Victoria Car Club where they do cruises and meets, “The best show was the first one we attended with our friend Graeme Ellis” says Darren. “He showed us how to present the car in the best way and he has always praised us on the things we have done with the car,”

Darren concludes by saying “we have been lucky enough to win a few trophies along the way. The All Holden Day, Lang Lang Show & Shine and most recently the 2.0 Mega Show & Shine Car & Bike Show but it’s not just about the trophies. It’s about chatting to people, hearing their comments and watching people smile. We will keep doing what we’re doing with MADVF2 and making friends along the way. Even though we have a modern classic car we hope the Australian classic car scene keeps evolving and it’s great to be part of it.”
